Darrell
began studying drawing and painting at the age of 15 as a student of Herman
Keys. This was in the 1950's. While still in high school he audited evening
classes at Whitworth College. After military service (Submarine Service)
Darrell finished his art education in illustration at Spokane Falls CC.
He spent the late 1970's teaching drawing and painting at the
Corbin Art Center. In 1978 Darrell and his wife started Ra-Tel's Art Supply
in Spokane, WA. The technical aspects and contacts gained during this time
have proved invaluable. During this time frame Darrell gave many lectures
and presentations at local colleges and universities.
The business was sold in 1998 and Darrell has been painting full
time in his Spokane studio.
Darrell's paintings are in collections in Ireland, Florida,
Virginia, New York, New Jersey, California, Oregon and Washington.
He is represented by Avenue West Gallery, 1021 West 1st Ave.,
Spokane. He usually has three shows per year at other galleries in the
Northwest. Please contact for locations.
"It is my objective to portray the emotions of the subject at a
moment in time with shape,
value and color, whether that subject be
figurative, landscape or abstract." ~ Darrell Sullens
